THE BROKEN CHAIN
We knew little that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
Barbara Chow lost her three year valiant and hard fought battle with LMS on May 29, 2009. Throughout this battle, Barbara always maintained a positive and courageous attitude, wore a smile on her face, and continued to put others before her, even during her times of pain. She lived life to its fullest, and she is a true inspiration to us all. By leaving this earthly home she has left a huge hole in our hearts, but it is comforting to know that she is heaven’s newest angel and will be watching over us all. In fact, Barbara didn’t really lose her battle, she won her wings.
Barbara was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 14, 1956. She attended St. Theresa’s Preparatory School and Immaculate Conception High School in Jamaica. She then attended both the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and Dalhousie University in Canada where she earned a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology. Barbara dedicated her whole career to working to protect the environment. She started her career working for Natural Resources and Conservation Department, and the Zoology Department at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. Later, she moved to Florida where she started her 15 year career with Broward County and took a position in 1994 as a Marine Biologist for the Department of Natural Resource Protection, Biological Resources Division. She most recently worked as a Natural Resource Specialist II in the Wetlands Section with the same agency – now named the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department. Barbara had a wealth of knowledge in the wetlands field, but her true love was always coastal/mangrove wetlands.
Barbara Chow lived in Lauderhill, Florida and was an active member of Swallowfield Chapel and Calvary Chapel. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and co-workers.
