2. LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation
This organization provides funding for research to find effective ways of treating the rare soft tissue cancer that Kevin was diagnosed with in April 2009. Kevin participated in numerous clinical trials at the University of Michigan Sarcoma Center in Ann Arbor, Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit and Henry Ford Health Systems in Detroit. He had radiation treatment and multiple surgeries and participated in multiple clinical trials involving chemotherapy and a sarcoma vaccine. Nothing worked to cure the disease. Whether anything worked to slow the disease is questionable as so little is known about this rare disease and it’s cyles of progression except that it generally develops metastatsis to the lungs, and in Kevin’s case, it did just that with a vengeance. There’s a real need for more research of this cancer — what causes it, who is more at risk, how to determine if a chemotherapy may help in a particular patient’s case before starting systemic chemotherapy, whether there is any genetic vulnerability — these are just some of the questions that need to be explored through research. This organization has been commended for its funding of valuable clinical trials at major sarcoma centers in the US.

4. Detroit School of Rock and Pop (DSRP)
DSRP was a source of much happiness for Kevin and our family in the last several years. Kevin started taking guitar lessons and then advanced to playing in a band at DSRP. Last February, Kevin was involved in a Bucket List Concert to help raise money for the DSRP Summer Camp Scholarship Program. Ed went to the DSRP summer camp last summer and went on a concert tour with DSRP to NYC. Kevin and his brother Chris and sister Amy have enjoyed recording sessions with the professional musicians at DSRP. Stephen, Ed, and Janice joined Kevin on stage in February to be part of the Bucket List Concert with Stephen playing alto saxophone, Ed playing the drums and Janice played violin. What fun for all! The mastermind for DSRP is Jason Gittinger, a wonderful, kind and generous man and excellent musician. Jason has a vision for DSRP to help people of all ages learn about and use music to enrich their lives. Jason set up a charitable organization for funding the program and you may donate by writing a check to Live the Music Foundation, and mailing the check to Detroit School of Rock and Pop, 1109 South Washington, Royal Oak, Michigan 48067
